If you are looking to buy a new heating system or finding an option to replace an existing one, in all probability you are stuck between choosing gas heat or electric heat and rightly so! Both electric heat and gas heat come with their own pros and cons.

Electric Heating Systems

Before you consider an option for your property, take a look at their pros and cons.

Gas Heat vs. Electric Heat

  1. Upfront cost and expenses

While gas heat is less expensive any day to operate, electric heating systems require a lower upfront cost. Using a gas furnace can mean a lot of savings in the long run but it can be more expensive to buy a gas furnace than an electric one.

  1. Maintenance

Gas heat requires more maintenance than electric heating systems since they run on combustible fuel. Electric heaters, on the other hand, are literally low maintenance units.

  1. Installation

An electric heater is also easy to install and requires minimal disruption during the process, unlike the gas heaters.

  1. Speed of heating

Gas heaters are fast heaters since they begin the healing process as soon as the burner starts. On the contrary, electric heating is slow since it waits for the element to heat up and then starts warming up space.

  1. Life Span

Gas heaters have a shorter lifespan which is almost half of the lifespan of an electric heater. A gas furnace usually lasts from about 10 to 20 years.

So the bottom line is that gas heat is an excellent choice if you are living in a region that has a colder climate while Electric heat is a wise choice if you live in a place with a warm climate or where there are no options of gas heat.
